Pioneers Ready for Road Bout at Wagner Sunday

SHU will tipoff at 4 p.m. against the Seahawks

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's basketball team hits the road this Sunday to play Wagner in Northeast Conference (NEC) play at 4 p.m. at the Seahawks' Spiro Sports Center on Staten Island, N.Y.

OPENING TIP
  • The Pioneers and Seahawks will meet for the 47th time in the two team's histories on Sunday, with the Pioneers holding a convincing 35-11 lead in the all-time series. 
  • Sacred Heart won both contests last season, winning by eight points both times. 
  • The Pios dropped their first NEC bout of the year on Monday with a 60-56 defeat to Le Moyne at the Pitt Center. 
  • Sacred Heart finished the game with three double-digit scorers, as Sajada Bonner had 13 points, while Ny'Ceara Pryor and Emma Kirby each had 12. 
  • Bonner ended the tilt with a stellar stat line of 12 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals. 
  • Pryor came close to posting her third double-double on the season with 12 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals. She also went a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe, her second straight game without missing a free throw. 
  • Kirby posted one of her best stat lines of the year against the Dolphins, finishing with 12 points, five rebounds, two steals and two blocks. She went 6-for-8 from the field in her second double-digit scoring output of her rookie campaign. 
  • Sierra Johnson and Olivia Tucker also posted stellar outings against Le Moyne. Johnson tallied nine points and four boards, while Tucker recorded seven points and a season-high five assists.

FIRST YEAR CONTRIBUTORS
Over the past week, SHU has gotten meaningful contributions from first years Nalyce Dudley and Emma Kirby. Dudley tallied a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double in SHU's win over LIU on Saturday. The Norwich, Conn., native has recorded two double-doubles this season and has three games with 12 rebounds. Kirby posted one of her best stat lines of the year against Le Moyne on Monday, finishing with 12 points, five rebounds, two steals and two blocks. The 6-foot-2 center from Chadds Ford, Pa., has scored over 10 points twice this season.

SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS
Wagner owns a 4-12 overall record through its first 16 games of the season. The Seahawks lost their last two contests, dropping league tilts to Stonehill (67-44) and Merrimack (72-45). Wagner's one NEC win came against LIU on Jan. 8, 75-66. The Seahawks have not exactly been dominant at home, as they are 3-3 in six home games this season. Wagner defeated Navy, Saint Elizabeth and LIU at the Spiro Sports Center on Staten Island. Leading the way for the Seahawks this year has been Semie Brar and Taleah Washington. Brar ranks eighth in the country with 10.7 points per game, while Washington isn't far behind at 9.9. On the other side of the ball, Rakisha Ballinger has been a steals machine, ranking third in the NEC with 2.4 swipes per game. 

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. WAGNER
The series between the Pioneers and Seahawks began in the 1978-79 season and has featured 46 games. Sacred Heart owns a convincing 35-11 lead over Wagner in the all-time series, winning the last three meetings.
