Sacred Heart scored four straight goals through the opening frame, including a pair from Ward. The Pioneers held the Dolphins off the board until five seconds left in the first to make it 4-1 heading into the second quarter.

In a low-scoring second quarter, the Pioneers jumped ahead 5-1 with Will Moulton's sixth goal of the season, but Le Moyne answered to pull within three at 12:06. Morgan O'Reilly scored his second of the day at the 11-minute mark, which would hold for the last goal of the half with the Pioneers leading 6-2.

Ward opened the third quarter with his third goal of the day at 13:51 to extend SHU's lead to five, but the Dolphins answered a minute later with a tally of their own, trailing 7-3. From there, Sacred Heart scored four straight goals, including long stick defender David Creo's first career goal right off a face-off win to take an 11-3 advantage.

Le Moyne scored two more in the third to cut the deficit to 11-5 heading into the final quarter.

SHU again went on a four-goal run, highlighted by first-year Tim Kiely's first career goal at 12:38 in the fourth. "I just saw the net move and threw up my whole body, just so excited to get that first one," Kiely shared about his first collegiate goal during the postgame interview. "Hopefully I can just keep working hard. Being a smaller guy like me, I have to show I won't stop fighting and will keep working hard."

Carson Spooner's goal at 7:58 put the Pioneers up by 10 for their largest lead of the day, 15-5, but the Dolphins scored twice, making the final 15-7.

Alex Pazienza made 12 saves, and Matt Gruters made his third appearance this season, tallying a pair of saves in his six-and-a-half minutes of play.

Luke Romanek, Nicky Casano, and MP Thomas rotated through face-off duties, combining for the team's 11 face-off wins.
