Men's Lacrosse Remains Undefeated in MAAC Play with Win Over Marist

Tucker Spencer tallied five points for the second straight game

FAIRFIELD, Conn.— Senior Tucker Spencer recorded his second consecutive five-point performance as the Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse team took down the defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) champions, Marist, at home, 12-7, under the lights on Wednesday evening. The Pioneers remain undefeated in conference play, winning their fourth straight game. First-year James Moran picked up his second hat trick of the season in the victory.

Of Note:
Sacred Heart dominated the first half, jumping to a quick 5-0 lead after the first 15 minutes of play while holding Marist scoreless. Moran opened the scoring in the second quarter with a man-up goal to continue the run for the Pioneers. SHU added two more to take an 8-0 lead before Marist finally got onto the board at 10:35 in the second quarter. Will Moulton scored on a man-down situation, followed by a long-stick defender man-up goal from Michael Amoruso to give SHU an 8-1 advantage at halftime.

Michael Moreschi scored first to open the third quarter, giving the Pios their largest lead of the day at 11, but from there, Marist started to find their groove. The Red Foxes scored three straight goals to end the third trailing by seven, 11-4.

Marist scored three more in the final frame, pulling within four 11-7 with just over 10 minutes remaining. Spencer and Moran connected on a man-up opportunity for the final goal of the day to solidify the Pioneers 12-7 final.

Sacred Heart was 4-for-7 on man-up opportunities and outshot Marist 50-32. Senior goalie Alex Pazienza made eight saves in the victory as he improved to 6-4 on the season.

Sacred Heart will hit the road on Saturday, March 30, to take on the only other undefeated team in the conference, LIU, at 2:00 pm.
