HANOVER, N.H.—The Sacred Heart University women's rugby team fell 32-16 on the road at Dartmouth College on Saturday afternoon in National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) action.
Fabiola Millien-Faustin and
Alyssa Cunningham each scored a try, while Cunningham added a pair of penalty kicks for the Pioneers.
Dartmouth got on the board first to take a 5-0 lead, but Millien-Faustin scored first for SHU to tie the game up, 5-5. Five minutes later, Cunningham put the Pioneers ahead 8-5 with a good penalty kick. The Big Green scored a try, made a conversion, and had a good penalty kick to take a 15-8 lead heading into the half.
Dartmouth scored first to open the second half, jumping ahead 20-8. Cunningham answered with a try for Sacred Heart to cut the deficit to seven, 20-13. With another good penalty kick, Cunningham added three more points to pull the Pios within four, 20-16, with just about 14 minutes left to play. Dartmouth scored the final 12 points to take the 32-16 final.
Sacred Heart will return home on Friday, Oct. 4, at 7:00 pm against Army for the team's Alumni Day.
