Women’s Basketball Welcomes Mount St. Mary's for First Home Game of 2025

The Pioneers and Mountaineers are set to tip off at noon at the Pitt Center

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's basketball team returns to the Pitt Center for the first time in 2025 on Saturday, Jan. 11, to take on Mount St. Mary's at noon in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Action.

OPENING TIP
  • Sacred Heart suffered a 64-53 road loss at Merrimack on Thursday, Jan. 9, in North Andover, Mass. 
  • The Pioneers owned the lead after the first and second quarters, but trailed by one after the third. 
  • The Warriors began to pull away in the fourth quarter, winning the frame 21-11 to sneak away with a 64-53 victory. 
  • Ny'Ceara Pryor finished the game with 18 points and a season-high 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the year. 
  • She added yesterday's performance to her 12-point, 10-steal double-double at UAlbany on Nov. 16. 
  • Emma Kirby came very close to tallying her second double-double of the season with 13 points and eight boards over her 33 minutes. 
  • SHU's final double-digit scorer was Amelia Wood with 10 points, six rebounds and three steals. 
  • Thursday's game marked the team's first with three or more double-digit scorers since SHU's win over Morgan State on Dec. 5.

LAST TIME OUT
The Pioneers fell on the road Thursday at Merrimack, 64-53, in North Andover, Mass. SHU led after the first and second quarters and trailed by one after the third. The Warriors took control in the fourth, taking the frame 21-11 to earn a 64-53. Ny'Ceara Pryor led the way for the Pioneers with 18 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. She also racked up four assists and four steals. Emma Kirby also almost double-doubled, tallying 13 points and eight rebounds. Amelia Wood also crossed double figures with 10 points and six rebounds. 

DOUBLE-DOUBLE DAY 
Pryor tallied an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double in SHU's setback at Merrimack. The Baltimore, Md., native now has two double-doubles this season and 12 in her illustrious career. Pryor joined Kirby as the two Pioneers with double-doubles. Kirby almost 10 and 10 with 13 points and eight rebounds.

SCOUTING MOUNT ST. MARY'S
  • The Mountaineers are 3-10 overall this season and 1-3 in the MAAC. 
  • Mount defeated Niagara 89-68 for its lone conference win, while its three losses came against Manhattan (75-47), Fairfield (76-61) and Marist (61-50 OT). 
  • The Mountaineers are 2-6 away from Maryland, beating Niagara and Mercyhurst (88-83 OT) on the road. 
  • Graduate guard Anna LeMaster has been a 3-point weapon for Mount this season, leading the conference 2.46 makes from deep per game. 
  • Because of her excellence, the team ranks second in the MAAC with 6.9 triples per game. 
  • LeMaster (12.7 ppg.) is second on the team in scoring, just trailing senior guard Jo Raflo with 12.8 points per game. 
  • The Mountaineers have struggled on the glass so far this season, ranking in the bottom eight in the conference in every rebounding category. 
  • Raflo leads the rebounding efforts with 5.2 rebounds per game.

SERIES HISTORY
  • The Pioneers and Mountaineers will meet for the 46th time on Saturday. 
  • SHU leads the all-time series 34-11 between the two former NEC members. 
  • Mount won the last three meetings, all three in 2022.
