Bennett's goal came off a rebound of her own shot, giving the Pioneers momentum as they outshot the Hawks 15–7 in the period. Despite multiple late chances and several power play opportunities, the Pioneers couldn't find the equalizer as Saint Anselm sealed the game with a late goal.
