THE LEAD
Continuing its four-game road trip, the Sacred Heart women's basketball team will travel to the nation's capital to meet the Georgetown Hoyas on Tuesday night. The Pioneers are looking to build off of their first win of the season last time out at Central Connecticut while the Hoyas look to snap a two-game slide with both of those losses on the road.

SCOUTING SACRED HEART
The Pioneers look to build on the momentum of their first win at CCSU last Thursday where four players reached double figures in the scoring column. Among them was the current leading scorer for the season, senior Amelia Wood who after reaching the 20-point plateau for the first time this season and the second time in her career extended her season-average to 14.0 ppg. Following her in the scoring column is a trio of Pioneers who are averaging 7.0 ppg which includes freshman Sophie Nascimento who came off the bench to score 15 points in the CCSU victory, including 12 in the second half alone. As a team, the Pioneers are being outscored by an average of 22.7 points per contest while having evened out the rebounding margin and now trail their opponents by just 0.3 rebounds per game. Wood also leads the way in the rebounding column with a 7.0 per game average after completing her first double double of the season against CCSU with 10 boards.

SCOUTING GEORGETOWN
After opening up the season with a win over Stony Brook, the Hoyas have lost their last two games both on the road at Maryland and George Mason, the latter in overtime. Despite the back-to-back losses, the Hoyas are outscoring their opponent by 6.3 points per game while shooting at a .425 clip (74-174) on the year. For the season, the Hoyas are led by junior guard Khia Miller who is one of two players averaging double figures in the scoring column with an average of 14.3 ppg. Both she and graduate guard Laila Jewett, who is averaging 10.0 ppg), are shooting over 40% on the season while third leading scorer, Victoria Rivera (8.7 ppg) is shooting over 50% for the season with five of her nine field goals coming from outside the three-point arc.

SERIES HISTORY vs GEORGETOWN

·       The Pioneers and Hoyas meet for the fifth time in history of the two programs on Tuesday.

·       Overall, Georgetown owns a 4-0 record in the previous four meetings.

·       The first two meetings came in back-to-back seasons with a home-and-home series in 1999-00 and 2000-01, the latter of those in Fairfield.

·       The last two meetings came in tournament play, the first in 2012-13 was the season opener as part of the Preseason WNIT.

·       The most recent meeting, the only under head coach Jessica Mannetti, came in the opening round of the postseason WNIT Tournament in 2018-19 with the Hoyas scoring a 90-59 victory.

HONOR ROLL
Following her first collegiate double figure outing this past Thursday in the road win over Central Connecticut, first-year guard Sophie Nascimento picked up the second Air Force Reserve MAAC Rookie of the Week accoladed doled out this season. Nascimento finished the CCSU game with 15 points, 12 of which came in the second half, as she was 4-of-8 from the field, with a three pointer, and 6-of-6 at the free throw line. In addition, she added two assists and a steal.
