THE LEAD
The Sacred Heart women's basketball team looks to bounce back into the win column as they return home for just the second time this season to host the Mercy Mavericks, renewing a series that took a one-year hiatus last season.
SCOUTING SACRED HEART
The Pioneers look to get back in the win column heading into the Thanksgiving break following setbacks at Georgetown and Northeastern last week. Leading the Pioneers into Tuesday night's match-up with the Mavericks is senior guard Amelia Wood who has led the team in scoring in four of the five games and is the lone player to average double figures at 12.8 ppg. Additionally, Wood leads the team in rebounding with a 6.2 per game average, steals with 10 and blocks with four. Following her in the scoring column is junior center Emma Kirby who is averaging 6.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. As a team, the Pioneers are shooting 34.1 percent from the field (91-of-267) with 19 of the 91 baskets from outside the arc. The biggest area of improvement for the Pioneers needs to come in ball control as they are currently turning the ball over at a clip of 20.0 turnovers per game.
SCOUTING MERCY
A perennial leader in the DII East Coast Conference, Mercy enters Tuesday night with a 2-3 overall record which includes a season-opening loss to Iona in the only other DI opponent it has faced. For the season, the Mavericks are led by junior post Grace Lesko who is averaging 18.8 points per game which ranks among the top 40 in all of DII. For the season, the Pennsylvania native is shooting 44.6 percent (33-of-74) and despite being a 6-0 post player, is a threat from outside where she leads the team with 11 three-point field goals. Lesko also leads the team with an average of 7.0 rebounds per game. Following her in the scoring column is junior guard Amani Abuhatab who is averaging 10.0 ppg. As a team, the Mavericks are shooting 36.5 percent from the field (96-of-263), including a 22-of-82 effort from long range.
