Men’s 4x400 Meter Relay Shatter School Record

Pios wrap up two days of competition at the UConn Northeast Challenge

STORRS, CT. — The Pioneers traveled to the basketball capital of the world to take on strong opponents as they begin to gear up for championship season. Throughout two days of competition, the highlight came in the very last event of the weekend in the 4x400-meter relay. The seasoned quartet of Rafael Mahario, Colin Brown, Connor Meikle, and Lance Hayes set the new school record at 3:10.61. This time is the best in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the 44th-best time in the East Region.

In the women's pole vault, two Pioneers tied for third. The bar was set at 3.60m and was cleared by Jenna Engels and Sophia DeMillio, who achieved a personal best. While on the track, Grace Miller (11.42.41) and Kelly Parker (12:13.36) claimed top-five finishes in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing third and fifth, respectively. While Magdelena Brogioli and Seirra Thompson finished seven events throughout the two days of competition in the heptathlon. Brogioli finished in second with 5026 points, and Thompson was right behind her in third with 4796.

On the track for the men, Matthew Vene and Anthony Esposito secured more top-five finishes for the Pioneers in the 5000m. Vene claimed second running a 15:33.80 while Esposito finished in 15:40.46 and finished in fourth. Rafael Mahario secured a season's best in the 400m running his race in 47.35 and finishing in fourth place.
