Winston-Salem, N.C. – The Sacred Heart University baseball team was shutout in a 4-0 loss to BIG Ten powerhouse Illinois.

The Pioneers had five different players record a hit in the loss. Ryan LaMay got the start and took the loss, giving up one earned run on one hit and striking out three in 4.2 innings of work.

  • Justin Jordan, Matt Aufiero and Brendan Coffey combined to allow one earned run on three hits and struck out four in 3.1 innings of relief work

  • Five different Pioneers recorded a hit for the Pioneers (Brown, Daubon, Garbuio, Glendon and Thibault)

  • Illinois tallied a run in the fourth after driving in a run on a fielder's choice

  • The Fighting Illini added to their lead after an RBI single in the fifth gave them a 2-0 lead

  • With runners on first and third in the sixth for the Illini, the Pioneers forced a double-play but Illinois scored a run on the play to hold a 3-0 lead

  • Illinois scored its fourth run after a throwing error by the Pioneers in the seventh inning

The Pioneers will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 22, when SHU travels to take on William & Mary in a three-game series.
