Austin Markmann Drives in Two in Baseball's 6-5 Win over Rhode Island

KINGSTON, R.I. – The Sacred Heart University baseball team defeated Rhode Island 6-5 Wednesday afternoon on the road to earn its third win in its last four contests. With the win, the Pioneers improve to 6-12 on the season, while URI drops to 4-11 on the season.

Thomas Pinto got the win after giving up one earned run and striking out five in three innings of relief. Austin Markmann led the SHU offense, 1-for-3 with two walks and two RBI's in the win. Stephen Thibault, Jake Frasca, Isiah Daubon and Bobby Garbuio drove in a run apiece in the win.

  • Billy O'Brien got the start and took the no decision after giving up two runs on two hits and striking out one in three innings of work

  • Thomas Pinto earned the win after giving up one earned run and striking out five in three innings of relief.

  • Baylor Sundahl recorded his second save of the season after closing the door in the ninth with two strikeouts

  • Garbuio pushed the lead to 6-4 with an RBI sac-fly

  • The Rams tacked on a run in the seventh and ultimately fell 6-5
