Garbuio Homers Twice in Baseball's 12-9 Loss at Stony Brook

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart University baseball team fell to Stony Brook on the road, 12-9, Friday afternoon.With the loss, the Pioneers drop to 6-13 on the season, while Stony Brook improves to 9-7 on the season.

Bobby Garbuio led the SHU offense, going 2-for-4 with two two-run home runs. Joe Emerson went 2-for-4 with two RBI's in the loss.

NOTES (Stony Brook 12, SHU 9):

  • Cooper Thompson got the start and got the no decision after giving up eight earned runs and striking out three in 3.1 innings of work

  • Michael Attonito took the loss after giving up three unearned runs in tho innings

  • Bobby Garbuio went 2-for-4 with two two-run home runs

  • Joe Emerson went 2-for-4 with two RBI's

  • Austin Markmann went 3-for-5

  • Joe Frasca, Isiah Daubon and Danny Glendon delivered an RBI apiece

  • The Seawolves struck first, tallying five total runs in the first two innings of play

  • The Pioneers responded with seven runs of their own in the third inning

  • Garbuio cut the deficit to 5-2 after drilling a two-run homer to right

  • With a runner on second, Frasca delivered a two-out RBI double to cut the deficit to 5-3

  • Daubon and Glendon followed with back-to-back RBI singles to tie the contest at 5-5

  • Emerson immediately followed with a two-run double to push the Pioneers ahead 7-5

  • The Seawolves responded with two runs in the third to tie the contest at 7-7

  • Stony Brook tacked on two more runs in the fourth to take a 9-7 lead

  • The Pioneers tied the contest at 9-9 after Garbuio delivered a two-run home run to leftcenter in the eighth

  • The Seawolves responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to secure the 12-9 win

The Pioneers will be back in action on Saturday, Mar. 23, when SHU travels to take on Stony Brook at 2 p.m.
