Porrino Drives in Four Runs in Baseball's 9-4 Win Over Mount St. Mary's

EMMITSBURG, MD. - The Sacred Heart University baseball team defeated NEC-foe Mount St. Mary's, 9-4 on the road Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Pioneers move to 18-29-1 on the year and 10-11 in NEC-play, while the Mountaineers fall to 15-34 on the season and 8-16 in the NEC.

Matt Aufiero got the start and earned the win after giving up three earned runs on seven hits, while striking out two in 6.2 innings of work. Anthony Porrino led the SHU offense, going 2-for-3 with four RBI's, while Justin Jordan, Jake Frasca, Austin Markmann and Elijah Brown drove in a run apiece.

  • The Pioneers went up 4-0 after Markmann scored on a wild pitch in the third inning

  • Jordan's RBI single in the fourth pushed the SHU lead to 5-0

  • Frasca drew a bases loaded walk to give the Pioneers a 6-0 lead

  • Jordan scored on a Brown sac-fly to push the SHU lead to 7-0

  • The Mountaineers responded by pushing three runs across in the fifth to trim the SHU lead to 7-3

  • With the bases loaded in the sixth, Porrino drilled a 2-run single to the outfield to push the SHU lead to 9-3

  • The Mountaineers scored in the eighth to trim the SHU lead to 9-4
