Men's Basketball Tabbed Ninth in NEC Preseason Poll

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart men's basketball team has been selected to finish ninth in the Northeast Conference, as the league released its preseason poll and its Preseason All-NEC Team at NEC Basketball Social Media Day at Barclays Center.

Saint Francis U is this season's preseason favorite, garnering eight first-place votes. Fairleigh Dickinson was second choice and received a first place vote, followed by reigning NEC champions LIU Brooklyn in third with the final first-place vote. Wagner and Robert Morris rounded out the top-five, with Central Connecticut State and St. Francis Brooklyn in sixth and seventh. Bryant, the Pioneers and Mount St. Mary's rounded out the remaining NEC teams.

The Pioneers return seven letterwinners and two starters from last year's squad that finished the season at 10-21. Among those returning are senior-captain Sean Hoehn, who led the Pioneers in scoring with 13.1 points per game. Red-shirt junior Kinnon LaRose makes his return in his second year as a Pioneer, looking to build off last season where he finished fourth in scoring for the Pioneers at 9.3 points a game. LaRose also led the Pioneers in three-point shooting with a 34% clip behind the arc, as well as three-point makes with 59.

SHU opens the 2018-19 season on the road, as the Pioneers will travel to Worcester, Mass. to take on Holy Cross at 7:05 p.m.
