WORCESTER, Mass. - Sacred Heart men's basketball redshirt-junior Jare'l Spellman was featured in an article titled, "Exploring the Upcoming #NECMBB Block Party" in "NEC Overtime!", the NEC's feature blog-site on Tuesday, Nov. 6.

In the article, Spellman is highlighted as an incoming player that could immediately bolster the Pioneers' defense in the paint. Despite being on the 2017-18 roster, Spellman did not see time on the floor as he had sit out as a redshirt due to transferring from Florida Southern.

"We saw a prospect that was unique for not only our program but for our league and he has done some things on both ends just by his size and his athleticism," head coach Anthony Latina said on Spellman.

In his two years at Florida Southern, he was third in all of Division II in blocks and left as the program's all-time leader in blocks. In 2017, Spellman was named the Sunshine State Conference Defensive player of the Year after leading the league with 104 blocks.

The Pioneers open the season on Tuesday, Nov. 6 when SHU travels to Worcester, Mass. to take on Holy Cross at 7:05 p.m.
