Men's Basketball's Second-Half Comeback Comes Up Short in 92-85 Loss at St. Francis Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Sacred Heart University men's basketball team was unable to complete its second-half comeback, as the Pioneers fell to St. Francis Brooklyn on the road, 92-85, Saturday afternoon at the Pope Physical Education Center. The loss drops the Pioneers to 7-11 overall and 3-2 in league play, while the Terriers improve to 11-7 on the year and 3-2 in NEC action.

The Pioneers had four players score in double-figures, with Sean Hoehn's 25 points leading the way. E.J. Anosike recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds in a losing effort.

FIRST HALF

  • SHU opened the contest with a 5-0 run and held a 5-2 run at the first media timeout with 15:54 remaining in the half

  • With SHU trailing 9-8 with 13:18 left in the half, St. Francis Brooklyn went on a 20-7 run over 5:35 to hold a 29-15 lead with 6:52 remaining in the half

  • The Pioneers responded with a 12-3 run of their own to cut the deficit to 32-27 with 3:27 left in the half

  • Sean Hoehn scored seven of the 12 points for the Pioneers on the run

  • St. Francis closed the half with a 9-3 run to take a 41-30 lead into the half

  • The Pioneers shot 29.6% from the field in the first half, compared to 45.5% for the Terriers

SECOND HALF

  • The Pioneers came out firing to start the half, going on an 20-8 run to take a 50-49 lead with 14:07 remaining in the half

  • Five different players scored for the Pioneers during the run, with Hoehn scoring nine of the 20 points

  • After the Terriers took a 51-50 lead, the Pioneers went on an 11-6 run to hold a 61-57 lead over St. Francis Brooklyn with 10:38 remaining in the half

  • St. Francis responded with an 8-1 run of its own to take a 65-62 lead with 7:56 left in regulation

  • SHU countered with a 10-3 run of its own to take a 72-68 lead with 5:11 remaining

  • With the score tied at 79-79, Cameron Parker found E.J. Anosike for the layup at the basket to give SHU an 81-79 lead with two minutes to go

  • The Terriers used the remaining 1:40 to close the game on a 13-4 run to hold on for the 92-85 win
