Men's Basketball Falls Short in 76-73 Loss to Mount St. Mary's

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Sacred Heart University men's basketball team was unable to complete a second-half comeback, as the Pioneers fell to Mount St. Mary's 76-73 at home Saturday afternoon at the Pitt Center. The loss drops the Pioneers' record to 11-14 overall and 7-5 in league play, while the Mountaineers improve to 6-19 on the year and and 3-9 in NEC action.

Sean Hoehn led the way for the Pioneers with 24 points, while Koreem Ozier added 18 points in the loss. Kinnon LaRose scored 15 points off the bench in a losing effort.

  • After SHU cut the deficit to 17-15 with 11:29 remaining, Mount St. Mary's went on a 13-3 run to extend its lead to 30-18 with 6:34 remaining in the half

  • The Pioneers used the remaining 4:54 of half to outscore the Mountaineers 10-5 to cut the deficit to 35-28 going into the half

  • Sean Hoehn and Koreem Ozier combined for 19 of SHU's 28 first-half points

  • The Mountaineers shot 59.1% from the field in the half, compared to 31.8% for the Pioneers


  • The Mountaineers opened the half with a 10-3 run to take a 45-31 lead with 17:10 remaining

  • Vado Morse nailed a mid-range jumper at the top of the key to halt the Pioneer run and to extend the Mount lead to 71-66 with 1:15 remaining

  • After Mount St. Mary's built its lead to 73-66, Kinnon LaRose nailed a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 73-69 with 36 seconds left

  • Sean Hoehn's layup with 15 seconds remaining cut the SHU deficit to 75-73, but SHU couldn't get over the hump and fell 76-73
