Men's Basketball Falls to LIU Brooklyn, 92-84

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Sacred Heart University men's basketball team fell to LIU Brooklyn, 92-84 on the road Saturday afternoon at the Steinberg Wellness Center. The loss drops the Pioneers' record to 12-15 overall and 8-6 in league play, while the Blackbirds improve to 12-14 on the year and 6-8 in NEC action.

Four Pioneers scored in double-figures with Koreem Ozier's 23 points leading the way for SHU.

  • After falling behind 7-3, the Pioneers went on a 19-7 run to take a 22-14 lead with 11:55 remaining in the half

  • The Blackbirds responded with a 13-4 run to take a 27-26 lead with 7:28 left in the half

  • The Pioneers responded with a swift 6-3 run to take a 32-30 lead with 5:31 remaining in the half.

  • LIU Brooklyn used the final 5:14 of the half to go on a 17-4 run to hold a 47-36 lead over the Pioneers at the break

  • Koreem Ozier led SHU with 13 points in the first half

  • The Pioneers shot 48.3% from the floor in the half, compared to 48.4% from the Blackbirds

  • LIU Brooklyn scored 21 points off 13 SHU turnovers

 

SECOND HALF

  • After the Pioneers trimmed the deficit to 64-55 with 13:43 remaining in the half, the Blackbirds went on a 22-10 run to push its lead to 86-65 with 7:31 left

  • The Pioneers responded by using the next 6:24 to go on a 15-3 run to cut the deficit to 89-80 with 44 seconds left.

  • However it wasn't enough as the Pioneers fell 92-84

  • The Pioneers had four players score in double-figures (Ozier 23, Hoehn 19, Anosike 14, Spellman 12)

  • Ozier scored 23 points on 8-for-16 shooting and 4-for-7 from three

  • Ozier has scored in double-figures in 12 of 18 games played and has scored 20+ points in four of those contests

  • Sean Hoehn added 19 points, seven rebounds and three assists in the loss

  • Hoehn has scored in double-figures in 24 of the Pioneers' 27 games

  • Hoehn has totaled 1,280 career points, which places him 25th on the program's all-time scoring list

  • E.J. Anosike tallied 14 points and eight rebounds in the loss
