Men's Basketball Falls to LIU Brooklyn 71-62 in the NEC Quarterfinals

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Sacred Heart University men's basketball team had its three-game win streak snapped as the third-seeded Pioneers were upset by the sixth-seeded LIU Blackbirds, 71-62 at home Wednesday evening at the Pitt Center. The Pioneers end the season with a 15-17 record and an 11-7 record in NEC-play.

Sean Hoehn led the way for the Pioneers with 17 points, while E.J. Anosike totaled 14 points and eight rebounds in the loss.

  • The Blackbirds used the opening 7:40 to go on a 21-6 run

  • After LIU Brooklyn pushed its lead to 25-17 with four minutes left in the half, the Pioneers closed the half with a 14-5 run to take a 31-30 lead into halftime

  • The Pioneers shot 40.6% from the field and held the Blackbirds to 35.5% from the floor

SECOND HALF

  • With the Pioneers leading 35-30, the Blackbirds went on a 7-0 run to take a 37-35 lead with 17:30 left in the half

  • Trailing 48-44 with 10:39 left in the half, the Pioneers went on a 7-1 run to take a 51-49 lead with 6:32 to go in regulation

  • The Blackbirds responded with a 15-5 run to take a 64-56 lead with 2:06 left in the contest

  • The Pioneers followed by going on a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to 64-62 with 36.5 seconds remaining

  • LIU Brooklyn closed the game with a 7-0 run to secure the 71-62 win over the Pioneers.
