FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sacred Heart sophomore RB Julius Chestnut has been named NEC Offensive Player of the Week by College Sports Madness, as announced on Sunday morning. Chestnut's efforts on the ground helped lead the Pioneers to a 41-7 win over Wagner on Saturday afternoon in which SHU scored 41 unanswered points in the second half of play.
The catalyst on the offensive side of the ball throughout the afternoon was Chestnut who extended his FCS-leading rushing total with 116 on the day to give him 1,224 for the season through 10 games. Chestnut's seventh 100+ yard performance of the season came on 27 carries while he also punched two rushes home from inside the 5-yard line, giving him 10 total TD (eight rushing, two receiving) in 2019.

Over his last two games, Chestnut has 67 carries for 319 yards (159.5 per game). Chestnut also stands just 63 yards away from 2000 for his career as he'd become the first SHU running back in school history to reach the 2000 career rushing milestone in his first two seasons as a Pioneer. Chestnut has been a revelation in NEC-only play as he has 789 rushing yards (131.5 per game) on 159 carries with 5 rushing scores through six league games.
The Pioneers (6-4, 4-2 NEC) take a three-game win streak into next weekend as SHU closes out their 2019 home slate with a non-conference showdown against Lehigh at 1 PM.
