SOMERSET, N.J. – Making his first career start on Saturday, Sacred Heart redshirt freshman QB Marquez McCray helped lead the Pioneers to a convincing 41-7 home win over Wagner and for his efforts, McCray picked up Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week honors, as announced by the league on Monday afternoon.

Starting for the injured QB Logan Marchi, McCary posted a solid debut in his first career start as he finished 11-for-14 throwing for 105 yards with 1 TD and 0 INT. McCray also rushed 14 times for 21 yards as he played mistake-free football while tossing his first career score in his first career start. Playing against a Wagner unit led by two-time defending NEC Defensive Player of the Year and the NEC's all-time sack leader in Cameron Gill, McCray put up a solid all-around effort averaging 7.5 yards per attempt while finding his first career TD with a pass to Tyrese Chambers in the fourth quarter.
McCray and the Pioneers are back in action on Saturday as SHU hosts Lehigh on Saturday for their final game at Campus Field this season. The Pioneers' non-conference and home regular season finale comes on Senior Day as SHU will honor its graduating student-athletes prior to the start of play.
