SOMERSET, N.J. – Spearheading another sensational defensive performance, Sacred Heart football senior DE Chris Agyemang earned Northeast Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors, as announced by the league on Monday afternoon. Agyemang posted his fifth career multi-sack game (second this season) while he set a new career-best with three tackles-for-loss in the 13-6 win over Lehigh.
Agyemang spearheaded Sacred Heart's suffocating defensive effort on Senior Day. The senior defensive end totaled five tackles as the Pioneers limited Patriot League member Lehigh to 3.5 yards per play. Agyemang made 3.0 TFL highlighted by a fourth-quarter strip sack that allowed SHU to keep a one-point lead with under 3:00 remaining. His first key stop dropped the running back for a two-yard loss on 1st-and-Goal, leading to a turnover on downs in the opening quarter. Agyemang logged a QB hurry on first down, helping the Pioneers force a three-and-out on Lehigh's last possession of the first half. The 6-foot-4 senior recorded a pass break-up on 3rd-and-3 forced Lehigh to settle for a third-quarter field goal attempt.

Facing Lehigh for the first time, the Pioneers put up a dominating defensive outing, limiting the Lehigh QB Alec Beesmer to 8-for-29 throwing while SHU came up with a season-high five sacks and 12 TFL, holding the Mountain Hawks without a touchdown in the contest. One game removed from matching a school record with eight takeaways last week against Wagner, the SHU defense relied on an all-around approach as nine Pioneers had at least 0.5 TFL while four had at least 0.5 sack.
Agyemang and the Pioneers complete the 2019 season on Saturday with the team's longest trip of the season as SHU heads to Moon Township for a Noon kickoff at Robert Morris.
