Sacred Heart Offense Quiet in 2-1 Loss to Yellow Jackets

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Despite outshooting AIC for the second straight night, the Sacred Heart men's ice hockey team fell to American International by a score of 2-1 at the Olympia Ice Center.  For the game, SHU lead in shots 37-30.

The Yellow Jackets took the weekend swept and handed the Pioneers their fifth straight loss as they improved to 6-16-1 on the year and 6-12-1 in the Atlantic Hockey Association.  SHU dropped to 3-18-5 and 3-11-5.

The game was won in the second period when AIC sophomore Adam Pleskach netted a pair of goals.  The first came just 41 second into the period, while the second was a power play score at the 17:40 mark.

In the third period, senior David Berube (Quebec, Que.) was tripped from behind on a breakaway 7:13 into the period and was rewarded a penalty shot.  It was the first penalty shot for Sacred Heart since 2008.  Berube went for a backhanded shot to the goalie's left and was turned away.

Just over a minute later, sophomore Eric Delong (Oakville, Man.) put the Pioneers on the board as he crashed the net and finished off a rebound from a shot by freshman Torin Snydeman (Groton, Mass.).

Sophomore Ben Meisner stopped 36 shots to earn the victory for the Yellow Jackets.  For Sacred Heart, junior Oliver St. Onge (Wickham, Que.) made his fifth start of the season and came away with 28 saves.

The Pioneers are back in action next Friday as they visit Bentley before taking on the Falcons at the Arena at Harbor Yard at 3:30 pm on Saturday afternoon.
