Setting the Scene... The Sacred Heart men's ice hockey team heads up I-95 to take on 17th ranked Yale for a Saturday night showdown at Ingalls Rink. The game will be streamed on the Ivy League Digital Network.
Last Time Out... The Pioneers rallied with five goals in the third period to beat AIC 6-3 on Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers picked up their first Atlantic Hockey win on the season. Evan Jasper led the comeback with a pair of goals in the final period. Goaltender Brett Magnus recorded 23 saves for Sacred Heart. A total of six Pioneers recorded two points on the day.
All -Time vs. Yale... Sacred Heart head coach CJ Marottolo is no stranger to Yale, as he spent 13 years as an assistant and associate head coach with the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs lead the all time series 3-1. Yale won the matchup 5-1 in their last meeting at Ingalls back in 2013.
Last Meeting... The last meeting took place on November 16, 2013 at Ingalls Rink. The Pioneers and Yale were even through the first period as they both traded scores early. Ben Lake scored the power play goal 1:55 into the game for Sacred Heart to tie it up at 1-1. The Bulldogs pulled away with a three goal second period to defeat the Pioneers 5-1.
Scouting The Bulldogs... This will be the season opener for Yale. The Bulldogs were selected fifth in the ECAC Preseason Poll. They led the country in both scoring defense (1.78 goals per game) and penalty kill percentage (94.4%) last season. They return leading goal scorer, senior John Hayden (16) and points leader sophomore Joe Snivley (28).
Jasper Firing Away... Senior captain Evan Jasper is leading the Pioneers with four goals on the season. He is second on the team 25 shots on goal in six games. Jasper recorded a shorthanded goal on Sunday, October 9 to give the Pioneers the 2-1 edge over Merrimack. Jasper also recorded a power play goal against Union. He added two more in the Pioneers first conference win over AIC on Sunday October 23.
