Pioneers Travel Up to New Hampshire for a Non-Conference Battle

Setting the Scene... The Sacred Heart men's ice hockey team goes up against their third Hockey East opponent, New Hampshire in Friday night battle. 

Last Time Out... The Pioneers fell to 16th ranked Yale 4-1 at Ingalls Rink. SHU got up early in the first thanks to a goal from senior Jeff Carroll on an assist from Ruslan Rakhmatov. The Bulldogs would answer with three goals in the first and one in the third to put it away 4-1. Nathan Perry had a career high 30 saves for the Pioneers. 

Scouting The Wildcats... The Wildcats sit at 3-3 (2-0 HE) on the year. Tthey are led by longtime head coach Dick Umile in his 27th season. New Hampshire is coming off a weekend sweep beating Umass 4-1 and Merrimack, 6-2. Freshman Patrick Grasso leads New Hampshire with eight goals and 10 points. Grasso currently ranks second in the nation with 1.33 goals per game. Senior Matias Cleland leads with five assists on the year. 

Another Bout Against the Hockey East... Sacred Heart's non-conference schedule features four Hockey East opponents (Merrimack, Boston University, New Hampshire, UConn). The Pioneers are 4-4 in their last eight contests against the Hockey East, beating Merrimack 2-1 on October 9 and falling to ranked Boston University 7-0 on October 21. 

Battle of Assist Leaders... The matchup features a battle of top five active  career assist leaders in Sacred Heart senior Justin Danforth and New Hampshire senior Tyler Kellleher. Kelleher sits second nationally with 113 career assists. Danforth sits at fifth nationally with 63 assists.
