Setting the Scene... The Sacred Heart men's ice hockey team wraps up their season series against AIC on Tuesday night at the Mass Mutual Center.
Last Time Out... The Pioneers fell to Niagara, 4-0 on Saturday afternoon. Sacred Heart outshot Niagara 37-30 but were rendered scoreless by Purple Eagles goaltender Jackson Teichroeb, who recorded the shutout. Niagara pulled away with a three goal second period to take the game.
All -Time vs. AIC... Sacred Heart leads the all-time series 30-18-8. The Pioneers have taken the last three meetings, outscoring the Yellow Jackets 15-6. The last 10 meetings between both teams is split 4-4-2.
Last Meeting... Sacred Heart picked up a sensational comeback victory with five goals in the third period to take home a 6-3 in their last meeting with the Yellow Jackets on October 23, 2016. Seven Pioneers recorded a two points on the day. Senior Evan Jasper was the spark for Sacred Heart with back-to-back goals in the third period to take the 3-2 lead. SHU tacked on three more to close the game at 6-3.
Clare Facilitating Offense for the Pioneers... Sophomore Liam Clare is leading the Pioneers with eight assists on the season. His mark is tied for seventh Atlantic Hockey. Clare has had two multi-assist games this season at AIC on October 23 and at home vs. Niagara on November 18.
Scouting The Yellow Jackets... Since their loss to the Pioneers on October 23, 2016, AIC has gone 2-2-4, picking up conference wins against Mercyhurst and Holy Cross. The young Yellow Jackets are led by freshman forward Dominik Florián with five goals and nine points on the season. Freshman Blake Christensen leads AIC with five assists. Freshman goaltender Zackarias Skog ranks sixth in Atlantic Hockey with a 2.73 goals against average. AIC sits third in the nation on the power play, going 13-47 (27.7%) on the advantage.
