Men's Ice Hockey Picked Tenth in Preseason Coaches Poll

FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The Sacred Heart men's ice hockey team was selected 10th in the 2018-19 Atlantic Hockey Preseason Coaches Poll on Tuesday.

SHU finished its fifth straight season with double-digit wins last season, finishing 13-22-4. The Pioneers return 23 student-athletes from a season ago. Junior Vito Bavaro is SHU's top returning point scorer from last year. The forward recorded 32 points and finished third on the team with 16 assists. Six returning players registered double-digit points in 2017-18.

The 2017-18 Atlantic Hockey Champions Air Force were selected to finish first with 97 points and seven first place votes. Canisius was picked second with 92 points and four first place votes. Robert Morris and Mercyhurst rounded out the top four of the league. Followed by AIC, Army, RIT, and Holy Cross. Bentley was picked to finish ninth, two points ahead of SHU. Niagara closed out the bottom of the poll.

The Pioneers open up the regular season on Friday, October 12 when they host Northeastern. Game-time is set for 7:05 p.m. at Webster Bank Arena.
