Men's Ice Hockey Set to Host #5 Providence on Saturday Night

Setting the Scene... The Sacred Heart men's ice hockey team
keeps home ice advantage heading into Saturday's single game
matchup against #5 Providence.

Last Time Out... The Pioneers fell to #15 Northeastern this past
weekend by a final score of 5-0. In the first game of the series,
SHU tallied two goals in which sophomore Matt Tugnutt
recorded a goal and an assist in the game but it wasn't enough as
the Huskies won by final score of 5-2. Senior goalie Brett
Magnus recorded a total of 49 saves in the series.

Last Meeting... It has been six years since the two teams last met
on October, 12 2012. The Friars came out victorious as they won
in impressive fashion by a final score of 8-2.

Scouting The Friars... The Friars are coming into the 2018-19
season after concluding the 2017-18 season by reaching the
second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Friars fell to Notre
Dame in the second round by a final score of 2-1. The team
returns 19 players including the teams leader in goals from last
season Kasper Björkqvist with 16 goals. The Friars are currently
ranked number five in the country and are aiming for another
trip the to the NCAA Frozen Four.

Lee and Tugnutt Shine for Pioneers in Opening Series.....Senior Mike
Lee and sophomore Matt Tugnutt scored the Pioneers first two goals of the
season on Friday night against Northeastern as Lee would score the first
goal while the team was shorthanded while Tugnutt found the back of the
net off an assist by Marc Johnstone.

Clare & Crocock Captain Pioneers in 2018-19.... Senior blueliners Liam
Clare and Mike Crocock will serve as team captains in 2018-19. Clare skated
in 33 games in his junior campaign, finishing fifth on the team in assists (11)
and had 12 points. Crocock played in 37 games in his third season with SHU.
He tallied three goals, seven assists for a total of 10 points.

Pioneers Picked Tenth In Preseason Poll... Sacred Heart was picked to nish
tenth in the Atlantic Hockey Preseason Coaches Poll. Last season, Sacred
Heart was 13-22-4 in Atlantic Hockey and finished tenth. SHU has recorded
five straight seasons with double digit wins.
