Men’s Ice Hockey Scores Four in Convincing  4-2 Victory Over Army

WEST POINT, N.Y.- The Sacred Heart University Men's Ice Hockey team (2-3-1, 2-1-0 AHA) kicked off its home at home series against Army West Point with an impressive 4-2 victory. The team concludes the series tomorrow afternoon against the Black Knights at Webster Bank Arena at 2:05 p.m. 

The Pioneers would be able to score the opening goal of the game as freshman Ryan Steele continued his impressive play as he found the back of the net at 13:24 off an assist by Jackson Barlient to put the Pioneers ahead 1-0. SHU would tally 10 shots in the first compared the Army's 12. After the Steele goal, the Pioneers defense would hold strong to hold the 1-0 lead heading into the second period. 

Army would kick off the second period with a power play goal at 3:22 courtesy of Brendan Soucie off a pair off assists to tie the game up at 1-1. But the Pioneers would rally back as sophomore Marc Johnstone would answer with a goal at 4:55 off an assists by Mike Crocock and Stephen Hladin. The Pioneers wouldn't stop there as just two minutes later at 7:55 Austin Mcllmurray would score on the power play off a pair of assists by senior Liam Clare and freshman Austin Magera to give the Pioneers a 3-1 lead. Then redshirt junior Jason Cotton would score an unassisted goal at 9:37 to end the second with SHU up 4-1. 

In the third Army would only be able to salvage one more goal to give the Pioneers the eventual 4-2 victory as the Pioneers tallied there second Atlantic Hockey victory of the season. Goalie Brett Magnus earned his second win in goal improving the teams and his record to 2-3-1 overall.
