Setting the Scene.... The Sacred Heart University Men's Ice Hockey team wraps up its regular season home-slate with a home-at-home matchup against Army beginning on Friday. Friday night, the Pioneers will be honoring six seniors as it will be Senior Night. 

Last Time Out... The Sacred Heart University Men's Ice Hockey team split a two game set with RIT this past weekend as the Pioneers fell to Tigers 2-0 in the first game and came out victorious in a 4-3 OT thriller in the second. Freshman Austin Magera tallied two goals in the game including the game winner at 4:21 in the first overtime period. The first goal scored in the second game was the first goal ever scored against RIT in Webster Bank Arena.

Scouting the Black Knights... The Black Knights recorded picked up three points in the Atlantic Hockey standings against Mercyhurst this past weekend tying 1-1 on Friday, while winning 4-3 on Saturday night. Army is currently eighth in the Atlantic Hockey league standings with a conference record of 8-11-5 and an overall record of 9-16-5. On offense, the Black Knights are led by junior forward Dominic Franco who leads the team in goals with 12 and is fourth on team in points with 20. In goal, sophomore Trevin Kozlowski tallies a record of 5-6-2 and compiles a GAA of 2.70 with a save percentage of 89.9.

Last Meeting.... The Pioneers split a two game series against Army West Point that took place on Nov. 9 and 10. The Pioneers took the first game 4-2 as four Pioneers each scored a goal in the victory coming off the sticks of redshirt junior Jason Cotton, freshman Ryan Steele, junior Austin Mcllmurray and sophomore Marc Johnstone. In goal senior Brett Magnus recorded 28 saves on 30 shots to pick up his second win of the season. The Pioneers fell in the second game to Black Knights at home by a final score of 4-1 as sophomore Marcel Godbout tallied the lone goal for the Pioneers at 11:34 in the second period off an assist by freshman Ryan Steele.

Clare Capitalizes for Pioneers... Senior Liam Clare picked up his first goal of the season in the 4-3 OT victory over RIT this weekend to split the series. Clare picked up the teams third goal of the game which was crucial as RIT would tie the game up to send it into overtime. Clare also picked up a pair of assists in the game to make his assist total on the year to 14 which is second on team and 17th in Atlantic Hockey.

Magera the Main Attraction... Freshman Austin Magera is currently first in Atlantic Hockey and tied for first in the country in game winning goals this season as he has tallied six for the Pioneers including the game-winner in overtime against RIT this past weekend. Magera currently leads the team in points with 23 and is first in goals with 11 as well as third on team in assists with 12.

Pioneers Third in the Country in Short-Handed Goals.... The Pioneers have tallied a total of eight short-handed goals this season which is currently tied for third place in the national statistical average. The Pioneers are also ranked 16th in the country in penalty kill percentage tallying 84.3%.

Freshman With Fight .... This years freshman class currently leads the team in total points with 58 as well as goals with 27. The class is led by Austin Magera who currently leads the team in goals and points as he has found the back of the net 11 times and assisting 12 times to tally 23 points on the year.

Benson Backing SHU... Sacred Heart University freshman goaltender Josh Benson has led the team from behind the net as he has tallied a winning record of 11-7-2 which a GAA of 2.38 which is 30th in the nation as well as second in Atlantic Hockey. He also records a save percentage of .904 which is fourth in Atlantic Hockey.

Johnstone Jolting Assists.... Sophomore Marc Johnstone currently leads the team in assists with 15 on the year as he tallied two in the 4-3 OT victory over RIT. He is currently tied for 16th in Atlantic Hockey in assists.
