WALTHAM, Mass.- Sacred Heart University Men's Ice Hockey senior Mike Lee and first-year Patrick Dawson picked up Atlantic Hockey Weekly Awards for their play at Mercyhurst this past weekend. Lee was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week while Dawson was named Rookie of the Week. The Pioneers will return to action this week when SHU hosts Canisius for a two-game series beginning Friday at 6:05 p.m. at Webster Bank Arena.
Lee scored goals in both games of the Pioneers road sweep of Mercyhurst while also finishing the series with three blocks and a league-best plus-6 rating. Lee's goal in the second period of Friday's game gave SHU a 2-0 lead and eventually stood as the game-winner in a 3-1 win. On Saturday, Lee again scored in the second period, his goal coming after Mercyhurst had scored consecutive goals to trim their deficit to one. The senior reversed the momentum and sparked a five-goal run to close out the 9-3 victory.
Dawson had his first three-point game as a Pioneer, registering three assists in Saturday's victory. Two of his three assists came at opportune times for SHU as he set up Austin McIlmurray for the game's first goal and then Vito Bavaro for the game-winning goal. Dawson registered five blocks, leading all rookies and tying for sixth in the league, while also finishing with a plus-3 rating.
