Sacred Heart University Men’s Ice Hockey first-year Austin Magera and sophomore Matt Tugnutt were named NCAA statistical champions as Magera was number one in the country in game-winning goals while Tugnutt was named the statistical champion in short-handed goals.
SNY announced the creating of a first-of-its-kind weekend hockey festival, Connecticut Ice, that will feature Sacred Heart University men’s hockey in the first-ever tournament of Connecticut’s four NCAA Division I men’s collegiate hockey teams. The three-day festival celebrating youth and amateur hockey in the State of Connecticut will take place Friday, January 24 through Sunday, January 26, 2020 at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, CT.

The Sacred Heart University Men’s Ice Hockey fell to AIC by a final score of 4-1 this afternoon to wrap up the season with an overall record of 15-15-4 and 14-11-3 in Atlantic Hockey League play. The Pioneers will have a first round bye heading into the Atlantic Hockey playoffs as seeding will be determined after the conclusion of tonight’s games. This is the best regular season the Pioneers have had since the 2009-10 season and the first time the Pioneers have had a first round bye since that time as well. The quarter-finals round will begin on Friday, Mar. 15.
