Senior Dave Jarman (Toronto, ON) tallied two goals and two assists this week en route to being named the Atlantic Hockey player of the week for games through January 3. Freshman goaltender Steven Legatto (Kelowna, BC) made 63 saves over the weekend and garnered his second consecutive rookie of the week award. The pair was a major factor as the Pioneers completed their first ever sweep of conference rival Air force Saturday and Sunday night.
Jarman netted the Pioneers first two goals Sunday night, scoring the fist on a loose puck in front of the Falcons net. He would later score the game winning goal beating the Air Force goaltender with a nifty one-on-one move. Jarman also provided a sparkling assist with a backhanded pass that gave SHU a 3-1 lead Sunday night. Saturday night the senor forward notched the assist on Nick Johnson’s game winning goal. Jarman is currently tied for first in Atlantic Hockey with 15 assists and is fifth in the conference with 21 total points.
Rookie goaltender Legatto earned a pair of victories in the sweep of Air Force, allowing just one goal in each of Sacred Heart’s two games. He compiled a staggering .969 save percentage making 63 total saves, 21 coming in the final period of a game. Legatto did not surrender a goal in the second or third period throughout the series. The freshman has caught fire as of late, surrendering just three goals in his last 180 minutes between the pipes.
