FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sacred Heart men's lacrosse freshman midfielder Donovan Lacey was honored as one of the nation's top first-year players on Monday. After completing a successful rookie campaign, he was named to College Crosse's 2019 All-Freshmen Third Team as a short stick defensive midfielder.
A prestigious honor for the freshman, Lacey was very productive in his first season finishing with 32 ground balls, 13 caused turnovers and six points (four goals, two assists) in 14 games. Lacey's production peaked down the stretch as he posted a season-high five ground balls in consecutive games to end the 2019 season.
Routinely used in the faceoff midfield unit, Lacey scooped up at least one ground ball in 13-of-14 appearances this season. He notched his first career multi-goal game with two goals at Stony Brook on March 5 while his best game of the season came in a road win at Wagner on April 27 where he compiled five ground balls, five caused turnovers and one assist.
