HAMILTON, NY (February 26, 2005) - The Sacred Heart men's lacrosse team dropped their 2005 season opener Saturday afternoon, falling 8-7 in overtime at Colgate University. The Pioneers got two goals and two assists from junior Kiel Adams (Rome, NY) in the loss while the Red Raiders improve to 2-0 on the year thanks to four fourth quarter goals and four points from Robert Trasolini.

Sacred Heart jumped out in front first as Adams set up sophomore Peter Greco (Hamburg, NY) at the 8:11 mark. The Pioneers made it 2-0 on a junior Christian Lynch (Northport, NY) also from Adams. The Red Raiders tied it up on goals by Brendan Hurley and Brian Robinson to close the first quarter. SHU took command in the second quarter, piling up three scores while holding Colgate scoreless.

Freshman Kieran Carney (Yorktown Heights, NY) scored at the 13:36 mark of the quarter off a pass from fellow freshman Tony Tanzi (Mahopac, NY). Adams tickled the twine for the first time, unassisted, just over a minute later. SHU went up 5-2 on a man-up goal by freshman Billy Fuchs (Merrick, NY) from Greco.

Adams gave SHU a commanding 6-2 lead on Adams second goal 58 seconds into the third quarter. The Red Raiders began their climb back at the 11:30 mark on Trasolini's first with 11:30 to go in the third. He opened the final quarter with his second 53 seconds in and followed with his third a minute later to pull within 6-5.

The Pioneers answered on junior Matthew Robideau's (Massena, NY) first of the season on a feed from Carney. But that would be all for the Sacred Heart offense on Saturday as Colgate came up with the final three scores of the day. Colgate's Matt Lalli and Rob Ryan hooked up twice on scoring chances in the final minutes to pull the Red Raiders even and force overtime. And with 2:12 to go in the extra session, Ried Diamond ended for Colgate with an unassisted goal for the final 8-7 result.

Sacred Heart returns to action on their annual Florida trip when they face Fairfield University on March 6th in Boca Raton at 7:30 pm.
