SOMERSET, N.J.— The Sacred Heart University Men's Soccer team was picked to finish eighth in the Northeast Conference Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll as announced by the conference on Wednesday.
The Pioneers finished the 2018 season with a 4-12-1 overall record while placing seventh in the NEC standings with a conference record of 3-5. The team returns 13 to the roster for the 2019 season while welcoming a eight-member freshman class to Park Avenue alongside five transfer students.
Sacred Heart was picked ahead of Central Connecticut State and new to the conference Merrimack. The NEC second place regular season team Saint Francis U, earned the top spot in the poll with five first place votes. St. Francis Brooklyn and Fairleigh Dickinson followed in second and third. Bryant and defending NEC Champions LIU were picked fourth and fifth while Robert Morris and Mount St. Mary's were selected sixth and seventh to round out the 10 team poll.
SHU opens the 2019 season at home as the Pioneers will face NJIT on Friday, August 30. Kick-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
