SOMERSET, N.J. – Sacred Heart senior Christina Turner was named the Northeast Conference Most Outstanding Indoor Track and Field Performer in the throws event as well as a First Team All-NEC selection in the shot put, as officially announced by the conference office on Thursday afternoon. In addition, SHU rookie Cameron Croce was selected to the All-NEC Second Team and All-Rookie Team in the weight throw.
Turner's accomplishment comes on the heels of an outstanding showing in the NEC Indoor Championships as he won the shot put event with a personal-best throw of 16.51m. He led the competition from the first throw and was the only competitor to surpass 16m on the weekend. Turner becomes the first field performer in program history honored as the top performer in the throwing events. His All-NEC First Team nod is also the first All-Conference selection of his career.
Croce performed well beyond his years as he claimed second place in the 2019 NEC Indoor Championships in the weight throw event, posting a throw of 17.14m. Placing behind Lutfi Pocesta, a senior of Wagner, Croce was the next-best finisher in the event to claim an All-NEC Rookie Team and All-NEC Second Team selection in the weight throw.
The Pioneers kickoff the start of the 2019 outdoor season with an appearance in the Wesleyan Spring Classic on Saturday, March 23rd.
