Men's Volleyball Falls to Stevens, 3-1

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Sacred Heart University men's volleyball team suffered its second-consecutive loss, as the Pioneers fell to Stevens Institute of Technology, 3-1, Tuesday night at the Pitt Center. The loss drops the Pioneers to 0-2 on the year, while the Ducks improve to 1-0.

SHU was led by an 18 -kill effort of Emerson Waumans, while Noah Ricchetti handed out 39 assists for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, January 19, when they host St. Joseph's at 1:00 pm

First Set; SIT 25 - SHU 21

  • The sides played to an early 5-5 tie

  • A kill from Waumans, followed by a block from Rob Chatteron pushed SHU's lead to 7-5

  • With SHU holding an 8-7 lead, a kill from Chatteron, followed by an attack error from the ducks gave SHU a 10-8 lead

  • After the Ducks fought back to a 13-13 tie, the two sides went back-and-forth to a 17-17 tie

  • The Ducks went on a 4-0 run, sparked by two Jack Bittker kills to take a 21-17 lead

  • A Shawn Tischler kill hated the run

  • With SHU trailing 24-21, Waumans recorded a service error to give Stevens the set win

Second Set: SIT 25 – SHU 21

  • SHU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in part to two kills from Waumans

  • The Ducks battled with a 7-2 run, capped by a SHU red card to give Stevens a point

  • With the score tied at 9-9, the Pioneers went on a 3-0 run, highlighted by two Stevens' attack errors

  • After Stevens tied the contest at 18-18, the Ducks went on a 3-0 run, with three different players recording kills

  • The Pioneers cut the deficit to 21-20 after a Michael McLaughlin kill

  • The Ducks took five of the next six points, with a Bittker kill sealing it the set for the Ducks

Third Set; SHU 27 – SIT 25

  • The two sides traded points to a 10-10 tie

  • SHU went on a 4-0 run after back-to-back kills from Tom Wisniewski and Chatteron, followed by two-straight attack errors from the Ducks

  • After the Ducks battled back to tie the match at 15-15, SHU called a timeout

  • The two sides played to an 18-18 tie before a 3-0 run from SHU pushed its lead to 21-18 after two attack errors from Stevens

  • With the score tied at 24-24, Bitkker delivered a service ace for Stevens to force a SHU timeout

  • Out of the timeout, Stevens recorded an attack error to allow SHU to tie the match at 25-25

  • SHU took the set after an attack error from David Lehman of Stevens, followed by a service ace from Waumans

Fourth Set: SIT 34 – SHU 32

  • The Ducks opened the set with a 10-4 run to force a SHU timeout

  • Out of the timeout, the Pioneers went on a 7-0 run, with four of the points coming off attack errors

  • With SHU leading 17-13, the Ducks went on a 4-0 run to tie the contest at 17-17

  • With the match tied at 21-21, the two sides continued to trade points to a 32-32 tie.

  • After a ball handling error by Noah Ricchetti, a Jacob Patterson kill sealed the match win for the Pioneers.

  • The set featured 16 ties and four lead changes
