Men's Volleyball Falls to George Mason in Four Sets

FAIRFAX, Va. - The Sacred Heart University men's volleyball team fell to George Mason, 3-1, Saturday evening on the road. The loss drops the Pioneers to 2-10 overall and 1-6 in the EIVA, while the Patriots improve to 12-4 on the year and 6-2 in EIVA play.

Taylor Bloomquist led the Pioneers with 10 kills, while Ramiro Balaguer led SHU with 32 assists in the loss.

The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, Mar. 16, when they travel to take on Harvard at 4 p.m.

First Set: SHU 25, GMU 19

  • The Pioneers jumped out to a 4-2 lead before George Mason battled to tie the contest at 10-10

  • With SHU leading 15-14, the Pioneers went on an 8-3 run to take a commanding 23-17 lead

  • After George Mason cut the deficit to 24-19, before an Emerson Waumans kill secured the set win for the Pioneers

Second Set: GMU 25, SHU 19

  • The two teams battled to a 6-6 tie

  • With the set tied at 9-9, the Patriots went on an 11-4 run to take a 20-13 lead

  • After the Pioneers cut the deficit to 22-19, the Patriots closed the set with a 3-1 run to tie the match

Third Set: GMU 25, SHU 16

  • The Patriots opened the match with a 10-4 lead

  • The Pioneers battled to cut the deficit to 14-9

  • The Patriots responded by closing the set with an 11-7 run

  • George Mason jumped out to a 10-5 lead

  • The Pioneers battled back to cut the deficit to 13-10

  • The Patriots went on a 12-5 run to secure the set and match win
