Men's Volleyball Falls to Harvard in Straight Sets

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. - The Sacred Heart University men's volleyball team fell to Harvard, 3-0, Saturday afternoon on the road. The loss drops the Pioneers to 2-11 overall and 1-7 in the EIVA, while Harvard improves to 5-9 on the year and 5-3 in EIVA play.

Taylor Bloomquist led the Pioneers with nine kills, while Noah Ricchetti led SHU with 24 assists in the loss.

The Pioneers return to action on Thursday, Mar. 21, when the Pioneers play host to Kean at 6 p.m.

First Set: Harvard 25, SHU 21

  • SHU opened the set with a 5-1 run

  • After Harvard cut the SHU lead to 6-4, the Pioneers pushed its lead to 8-4

  • Harvard responded with a 9-1 run to take a 13-9 lead

  • With Harvard leading 16-14, the Pioneers were able to tie the set at 16-16

  • With the score tied 17-17, Harvard went on a 8-4 run to secure the 25-21 set win

Second Set: Harvard 25, SHU 18

  • The teams battled to an early 8-8 tie

  • Harvard went on a 4-0 run to take a 12-8 lead

  • SHU was able to cut the deficit to 14-13 before the Crimson built its lead to 17-13

  • After the Pioneers cut the Harvard lead to 18-16, the Crimson closed the set with a 7-2 run

Third Set: Harvard 25, SHU 20

  • The teams battled to an 8-8 tie

  • Harvard was able to jump out to a 17-11 lead

  • The Pioneers cut it as close as 21-16, but the Crimson secured the set with a 25-20 win, clinching the match
