Men's Volleyball Sweeps Kean at Home

FAIRFIELD, CONN. - The Sacred Heart University men's volleyball team upset No. 3 Kean, 3-0, Thursday afternoon at home. The win improves the Pioneers to 3-11 overall, while Kean drops to 18-4 on the year.

Emerson Waumans and Jakob Karlsson led SHU with nine kills apiece, while Ramiro Balaguer led the Pioneers with 22 assists.

The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, Mar. 30, when the Pioneers play host to Penn State at 5 p.m.

First Set: SHU 25, Kean 21

  • The two sides played to an early 7-7 tie in the set

  • SHU went on a 5-1 run to push its lead to 12-8

  • After the Cougars cut the SHU lead to 15-14, the Pioneers battled to push its lead to 18-14

  • Kean cut the SHU lead to 20-19 before the Pioneers closed the set on a 5-2 run

Second Set: SHU 25, Kean 23

  • The sides played to a 10-10 tie in the set

  • The teams traded points to a 15-15 tie

  • SHU jumped out to an 18-15 lead after a Kean attack error and back-to-back kills from Taylor Bloomquist

  • With SHU leading 23-20, the Cougars battled to cut the SHU lead to 24-23

  • Aaron Peterson delivered the set-clinching kill for the Pioneers to take the set 25-23

Third Set: SHU 25, Kean 21

  • The sides played to a 14-14 tie in the set

  • SHU took a 15-14 lead and never relinquished it

  • Tied at 14-14, the Pioneers went on a 7-2 run to push its lead to 21-16

  • The Cougars cut it as close as 24-21 but Shawn Tischler secured the set and match win with a kill
