Men's Volleyball Falls in Three Sets to NJIT on the Road

NEWARK, N.J. - The Sacred Heart University men's volleyball team fell to EIVA-foe NJIT in three sets Friday evening on the road. The loss drops the Pioneers to 3-14 overall and 1-10 in the EIVA, while NJIT improves to 8-13 on the year and 3-8 in the EIVA.

Emerson Waumans led SHU with eight kills, while Ramiro Balaguer led the Pioneers with 12 assists.

The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, April 6, when the Pioneers travel to take on to Princeton at 5 p.m.

First Set: NJIT 25, SHU 20

  • NJIT opened the set with a 5-1 lead before SHU battled back to cut the deficit to 7-6

  • With the Highlanders leading 14-9, the Pioneers battled back to trim the NJIT lead to 15-13

  • After NJIT pushed its lead to 17-13, SHU was able to come back and tie the contest at 18-18, capped by an Emerson Waumans service ace

  • The Highlanders took seven of the next nine points to secure the set win

Second Set: NJIT 25, SHU 14

  • The teams traded points to a 4-4 tie

  • The Highlanders went on a 13-6 run to take a 17-10 lead

  • The Pioneers cut it as close as 17-12 before the Highlanders closed the set on an 8-2 run

Third Set: NJIT 25, SHU 19

  • The two sides traded points to an 8-8 tie

  • NJIT went on a 7-2 run to take a 15-10 lead

  • After the Highlanders pushed its lead to 17-12, the Pioneers battled to cut the deficit to 17-14

  • NJIT separated itself with a 6-2 run to push its lead to 23-16

  • The Pioneers cut it to 24-19 but was unable to complete the comeback
