Men's Volleyball Falls to Princeton on the Road in Straight Sets

PRINCETON, NJ –– The Sacred Heart University men's volleyball team fell to Princeton, 3-0, Saturday on the road. The loss drops the Pioneers to 3-15 overall and 1-11 in the EIVA.

Emerson Waumans led the Pioneers with 13 kills and six digs. Noah Richetti led SHU with 26 assists in the loss.

The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday, April 10, at 6pm when they host Springfield.  

First Set: GMU 25, SHU 13

  • The Pioneers had an early 1-0 edge over Princeton

  • Princeton evened the score, 2-2

  • The Tigers quickly gained speed, leading 7-3

  • SHU recorded back-to-back kills, bringing their deficit to 18-10

  • Princeton went on a 3-0 run to lead 21-11

  • The Tigers closed 4-2 run

Second Set: GMU 25, SHU 22

  • The Pioneers went on an early 3-0 run to lead 3-1

  • Princeton returned with a 4-0 run of their own

  • Emerson Waumans recorded a kill to keep the Pioneers close, 7-10

  • The Pioneer's 3-0 run evened the score to 12-13

  • The match remained a 1 point differential until the Tigers went on a 3-0 run of their own

  • Princeton closed the set with a kill, 25-22

Third Set: GMU 25, SHU 21

  • Trying to squash any momentum, SHU started with a 4-0 lead

  • Princeton recorded back-to-back services aces, to close SHU's gap 6-4

  • The Tigers continued their strong play with a 4-0 run to give them their first lead of the match, 7-8

  • The match again remained close, until Princeton recorded three straight points

  • Tom Wisniewski posted a kill to make the score 14-17

  • Princeton went on a 4-0 run, but the Pioneers answered with 3-1 run of their own

  • However, SHU couldn't recover and closed the final set 25-22

  • Four Pioneers recorded solo blocks

  • The Pioneers hit .227 for the match

  • Ricchetti handed out 26 of the Pioneers 30 assists

  • George Huhmann led Princeton with 12 kills
