The Sacred Heart University wrestling team posted the third-best team grade-point-average in the country this fall. The 26 student-athletes on the Pioneers wrestling roster combined for a GPA of 3.49253. The top-30 All-Academic Team list was announced by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
"Congratulations to the gentlemen of our program for their success in the classroom," said first-year head coach John Clark. "We strive for excellence in all that we do, and this showing is a testament to the dedication these young men have, in all areas."
The Pioneers achieved the team GPA on the strength of 10 student-athletes earning Dean's List recognition. Topping the academic charge were senior Russell Feye, sophomore Christopher Zaccaria and freshman Nicholas Fierro, all who posted perfect 4.0 GPA's during the fall semester.
In the Spring 2017 semester the Pioneers ranked seventh in the nation in GPA.
