FAIRFIELD, Conn.- The Sacred Heart University wrestling team fell to EIWA rival Binghamton tonight by a final score of 34-7. The loss drops the Pioneers to 5-4 overall on the year and 1-2 in EIWA action while Binghamton improves to 5-3 and 4-1 on the year.
Two pins and a technical fall as well as three major decisions would contribute to the Bearcats victories.
The Pioneers will return to action on Sunday Feb. 3 when the Pioneers travel to New York to face off against Columbia. Match-time is set for 6:00 p.m.
125 Pounds: Ryan Burns (SHU) vs. Audey Ashkar (BING) Ashkar, won by pin first at (4:56)
- Ashkar would score a takedown to earn two points with under a minute in the round.
- The first Ashkar pin would come at 4:56.
- Burns would tally a point for the Pioneers with 20 second left in the round.
- Binghamton would win the matchup 6-0.
133 Pounds: Anthony Petrillo (SHU) vs. Zack Trampe (BING), Trampe 20-4 (technical fall)
- Trampe would score the opening points at 2:14 to take an early 2-0 lead
- Trampe would score his second takedown at 1:15 to take a 7-1 lead.
- Petrillo would score a pair of points for breakaways in the final minute to cut the Binghamton lead to 7-2.
- Binghamton extented its lead to 11-0
141 Pounds: Anthony Sparacio (BING) vs. Gerard Daly (SHU)- Sparacio 3-2 (decision)
- After the first round each side would hold each other to no points keeping the score 0-0.
- A quick get away by Daly would give him a point with a minute remaining in the second round to cut the lead to 3-1.
- Daly would score his second point off a breakaway to cut the lead to 3-2 with 1:23 left in the third round.

- Cornell would score his first point off a breakaway to cut the lead to 6-1.
- Garcia though would follow up with a takedown at 1:28 to take an 8-1 lead.
- Garcia would score four points to take a 12-1 lead off two takedowns
- A third round takedown would give Garcia a 14-2 lead with 29 seconds remaining.
- Garcia would win the match 15-2 and increase Binghamton's lead to 18-0.

- At the end of the first round neither wrestler would score a point.
- Barker would score the opening point with 1:49 remaining off an escape to take a 1-0 lead.
