The Sacred Heart women's basketball team is on a five game winning streak, recently defeating the Mountaineers of Mount St. Mary's on Monday 49-45. SHU is back at home Saturday to take on the Blackbirds of LIU Brooklyn for their first game of the season. The Pioneers hold a 7-1 record in the NEC and are tied for the number one spot in the rankings.

Inside the Series...

  • SHU leads the all-time series with LIU Brooklyn 18-16, and currently have a three game winning streak after sweeping the Blackbirds the last season
  • The match-up sits at 4-4, in the past four seasons. The last time LIU Brooklyn picked up a victory over the Pioneers was 1/12/15 in a regular season game that ended 77-74
  • SHU's Adaysha Williams, and Kimmel have started in all seven games against the Seahawks the past four seasons only losing once


Scouting the Blackbirds...

  • LIU Brooklyn comes into Saturday's NEC competition owning a 1-10 record after the non-conference slate. The Recently opened up NEC play taking on Mount St. Mary's where they won 63-60
  • The Blackbirds have been on a one game winning streak since starting NEC play, most recently beating Wagner 69-64
  • Going into Saturdays contest the Blackbirds don't lead any major categories in the NEC. Although they edge the Pioneers in rebounding, averaging 35.2 RPG, compared to SHU's 34.2

Last Game...

Sacred Heart took on Mount St. Mary's last, besting the Mountaineers 49-45. The highlight of the night was Shelby Hickey's clutch three pointer to secure the win, Hickey would go on to end the game with nine points, five coming in the final 30 seconds. Katherine Haines recorded her third double-double of the season as she recorded 11 points, and 13 rebounds. Hannah Kimmel recorded her third straight double-digit game, and now has posted double digits in seven of her last eight NEC games. Adaysha Williams found herself in foul trouble early, as she finished the game with only 26 minutes, her second lowest game of the season. SHU ended the night shooting 32.7% from the field (16-49), and holding the mountaineers to 27.5% (14-51). The Pioneers shot .700 (14-20) from the free throw line, and manage to force 16 turnovers, while only committing 14 of their own. Tykera Carter led the bench with four points.


Ice In Her Veins...

Senior Shelby Hickey hit a game winning three to put the Pioneers ahead of the Mountaineers with just 30 seconds remaining in regulations. She would go on to score 9 points total, but shot a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line in Monday's contest against Mount St. Mary's.


Kimmel vs. The Blackbirds...

Hannah Kimmel has posted double digit scoring against the Blackbirds in all six games, averaging 16.5 PPG. She has recorded a double-double in three of the six games taking on LIU Brooklyn, and averages just shy with 8 rebounds. She has recorded double-digits scoring in six of the seven NEC games, and continued the trend, putting up 11 points in Sacred Heart 49-45 win against Mount St. Mary's.


Winning Streak...

The Pioneers have jumped off to a great start to NEC play, posting a 7-1 record so far. After falling to Central Connecticut State earlier in the year, SHU has been on a tear, posting five straight wins.
