Pioneers Hold Annual Pink Game Saturday 1:00pm

The Sacred Heart women's basketball team is tied for first in the NEC, posting a 8-2 record. As they approach the midway point of conference play, the Pioneers look to take on the Bryant Bulldogs this Saturday, in the William H. Pitt Center at 1:00pm.


Game Notes


Inside the Series...

  • SHU leads the all-time series with Bryant 14-10, and currently have a two game winning streak after splitting a pair of games last year, and taking the Bulldogs out earlier this season
  • The match-up sits at 8-4, in the past five seasons. The last time Bryant picked up a victory over the Pioneers was 1/30/16 in a regular season game that ended 61-59
  • These two teams have a history of keeping games close, the last time a game was decided beyond double digits, besides earlier this season was on 1/28/13 where SHU won 62-44

  • Bryant comes into Saturday's NEC competition owning a 10-11 overall record, and a 5-5-conference record. The Bulldogs come off a big win over Fairleigh Dickinson, where they sneaked by 50-48
  • The Bulldogs were recently on a three game losing streak where they lost to Robert Morris (62-46), Saint Francis U (79-67), and Central Connecticut (53-52)
  • Going into Saturdays contest Bryant leads the NEC in Free Throw Percentages (.765), Rebounding Defense (34.8), and Rebounding Margin (+5.1)


Last Time They Met...

  • The Sacred Heart women's basketball team outscored the Bryant Bulldogs 38-21 in the second half to rally for a 65-53 win Saturday afternoon at Chace Athletic Center
  • Adaysha Williams tied a career-high with 22 points, scoring 18 in the second half. She was 8-for-9 from the field and 5-for-6 at the foul line, adding five rebounds and four steals.
  • Katherine Haines has 13 points, eight rebounds, and a career-high five blocks. Shelby Hickey and Kelcey Castro each scored nine points.

SHU at Home...

The Pioneers are now 5-3 at home this season. Sacred Heart traditionally has had great success in the William H. Pitt Center boasting a .717 (220-86) winning percentage. While never posting a losing record at home since the building's opening in 1997, the Pioneers' went undefeated at home twice in 2003-04 (14-0) and 2005-06 (15-0). SHU is 15-6 (.714) when hosting an NEC Tournament game, and have won all three titles on its home floor.


The Duo...

Katherine Haines and Hannah Kimmel has made a statement since the start of NEC play. Kimmel is leading the team with averaging 16.1 PPG in NEC play, while Haines is a close second averaging 13.5 PPG. The Duo also leading SHU with Kimmel averaging 8.2 RPG, and Haines leading the team with 9.3 RPG.



The Pioneers out rebounded the Mountaineers 36-24 in Monday's NEC battle. SHU had four Pioneers finish with 5+ rebounds, with Katherine Haines, and Shelby Hickey finishing with seven boards apiece. This marks Sacred Hearts fourth time outrebounding a team this season.


Kimmel vs. The Bulldogs...

Hannah Kimmel has posted double digit scoring against the Bulldogs in four of her seven games, averaging 13.5 PPG. Kimmel has recently posted 22 points in two of her last three games facing the bulldogs. The Bulldogs held Kimmel to her NEC low, 5 points the last time the two teams matched up. Since then, Kimmel has averaged 19.6 PPG, and recorded her conference high with 28 points against St. Francis Brooklyn.
