The Sacred Heart women's basketball team is tied for the top spot in the NEC as the end of the season rounds the corner. The Pioneers currently sit at 12-3 in the Northeast Conference, and are currently on a three game winning streak, most recently defeating the Blackbirds of LIU Brooklyn. The Pioneers are 8-0 in the Pitt Center during Conference play and look to keep the trend, with a win over the Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson this Monday at 6:00pm in the annual Pack the Pitt game on ESPN3.


Game Notes


Last Time They Met...

  • The Sacred Heart women's basketball team travelled to Stratis Arena on a Monday to take on the Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson, where they would eventually fall 58-56. Katherine Haines would record a new career high 22 points as she shot 9-15 from the floor. Adaysha Williams would finish in double digits as well recording 13 points for the Pioneers.
  • Haines was just one board shy of recording her fifth double-double of the season, as she finished the night with nine rebounds
  • FDU gave the Pioneers trouble in the paint, as they would out rebound SHU 22-15 in the first half. 10 of the knights 22 rebounds were offensive

  • SHU leads the all-time series with Fairleigh Dickinson 27-4, and currently have a one game-losing streak after falling 58-56 earlier this season. The Pioneers swept the Knights last season taking two games

  • Fairleigh Dickinson comes into Monday's contest with an 8-18 record. The Knights are currently tied for 7th place owning a 6-9 record in the NEC
  • The Knights were recently on a tear, with a three game win streak. The hot streak was snapped most recently as they fell to Mount St. Mary's in a close 75-71overtime thriller
  • Going into Monday's contest the Knights lead the NEC in offensive rebounds, averaging 15.19 per game. This was the road to success for the Knights in their last matchup with SHU

SHU at Home...

The Pioneers are now 9-3 at home this season. Sacred Heart traditionally has had great success in the William H. Pitt Center boasting a .717 (224-86) winning percentage. While never posting a losing record at home since the building's opening in 1997, the Pioneers' went undefeated at home twice in 2003-04 (14-0) and 2005-06 (15-0). SHU is 15-6 (.714) when hosting an NEC Tournament game, and have won all three titles on its home floor.


Late Energy...

The Pioneers needed a late comeback to takedown the Blackbirds of LIU Brooklyn. The Pioneers trailed by 9 points at one point but after posting 19 points, and holding the Blackbirds to 6 points in the fourth quarter they pulled off the 51-41 win.



Tykera Carter has come off the bench to be a standout performer for SHU in the last four games. Carter is averaging 9.5 points in her last four games, and posted a career high 14 points against St. Francis Brooklyn last week.


Charity Stripe...

Adaysha Williams posted double digit points for the 13th time this season but found 80% of her points against LIU Brooklyn at the free throw line. Williams shot 8-9 from the charity stripe proving her consistency. The Blackbirds gave the Pioneers 25 opportunities to score at the free throw line, with SHU finishing the night shooting 19-25.
