Kruk Scores Lone Goal in Field Hockey's 3-1 Loss at Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - The Sacred Heart University field hockey team fell to Hofstra on the road, 3-1 Wednesday afternoon. Kayla Kruk scored the lone SHU goal in the loss.

With the loss, the Pioneers fall to 1-4 on the season, while the Pride improves to 2-4 on the season with the win. SHU will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 13 when the Pioneers play host to Holy Cross at 6 p.m. at Johnson Field in New Haven.

The Scoring

First Quarter 

  • (6:26): Djuna Short scored sent a pass to Mercedes Currie in the zone for the one-timer to put Hofstra up 1-0

Third Quarter

  • (39:24): Jordan Thompson scored an unassisted goal to give Hofstra a 2-0 lead

  • (39:47): Kayla Kruk corralled a loose ball and put it in the back of the net to cut the SHU deficit to 2-1

Fourth Quarter 

  • (54:18): Camilla Larsson sent a pass across the goal mouth, where Ming Doherty deflected it past the goalkeeper to secure the 3-1 win for Hofstra

Noteworthy

  • The Pride outshot the Pioneers 22-17

  • SHU registered six shots on goal compared to 13 for Hofstra

  • Hailey Power made five saves and allowed just one goal

  • Alyssa Stevens made four saves

  • SHU generated 14  penalty corners, while Hofstra registered 10
