Field Hockey Falls at Albany, 8-1

ALBANY, N.Y. - The Sacred Heart University field hockey team fell to Albany, 8-1 on the road Friday afternoon. Bridget LaRiccia scored the lone goal for the Pioneers, while Bridget Kelly notched a defensive save as well.

With the loss, the Pioneers fall to 1-9 on the season, while the Great Danes improve to 6-3 on the season with the win. SHU will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 4 when the Pioneers travel to take on NEC-foe Fairfield at 4 p.m.

First Quarter 

  • (3:36): Cosima Rocktaeschel sent a pass to the middle to Katie MacCallum, who took a reverse chip-shot on net for a goal

  • (4:54): MacCallum sent a pass to Rocktaeschel, who directed it to the back of the net to put Albany up 2-0

  • (10:10): Colleen McAninley sent a pass to Bridget LaRiccia in the middle, who directed it home to cut the deficit to 2-1

Second Quarter 

  • (17:39): Baylee Burghardt collected a rebound and shot it past the keeper to give Albany a 3-1 lead

Third Quarter

  • (34:54): Dana Bozek scored an unassisted goal to give Albany a 4-1 lead

  • (36:47): MacCallum sent Rocktaeschel a pass to the right side of the goal for the tap in

  • (42:03): Lillian Hickey dribbled through the defense and shot it past the keeper from five yards out

Fourth Quarter 

  • Rocktaeschel sent Burghardt a pass across the middle, where she shot it in to take a commanding 7-1 lead

  • MacCallum sent a pass to Rocktaeschel in front of the net for the one-timer

  • The Great Danes outshot the Pioneers 36-8

  • SHU registered two shots on goal compared to 26 for Albany

  • Bridget LaRiccia's goal was her second of the season, which ranks second on the team
